Yasen Vasilev holds a Bachelor in Dramaturgy from the Academy in Sofia (2013) and a Masters in Intercultural Communication from Shanghai Theatre Academy (2016).

The practical research of his Master thesis on the politics of dance, NUTRICULA (2015–) has been developed and presented in the form of workshops and performances in Shanghai, Lisbon, Vilnius, Bergamo, Turin, Taipei, Barcelona and Norway, with new versions scheduled in Brussels, Trondheim and Valletta. He is the author of four poetry collections published digitally and five theatre plays. He won the audience award at Sofia:Poetics festival in 2010, was nominated for the Askeer award for new dramaturgy in 2013 and the CEI fellowship at Vilenica festival in 2020.

Since 2018 he’s a contributing author for Springback magazine and has also written on performing arts and working conditions for CAS, Bit teatergarasjen, ASEF, EDN and others. In 2019 he co-founded Drama Pact, a collective of writers who share resources instead of competing for them, and started working with Radar Sofia, an artist-run residency for playwrights and artists at risk. He also co-curates the international program of the Small Season festival at Theatre Laboratory Sfumato.
